| NECA Begins Assignment of Alphanumeric Company Codes On August 7, 2002, NECA began assigning alphanumeric Company Codes. As stated in previous announcements to the industry, the new code format is NXXX, where N=0-9 and X=0-9 or A-Z. This format will be utilized for all subsequent code requests and will not affect existing numeric Company Code assignments. Company Codes are assigned to all telecommunications service providers for unique identification and are used in mechanized systems throughout the industry to facilitate the exchange of information. Applications of Company Codes include, but are not limited to: NECA Tariff FCC No. 4, the LERG Routing Guide, Access Service Requests (ASR), Carrier Access Billing Systems (CABS), Exchange Message Interface (EMI) and Interexchange Carrier billing systems. NECA
has reserved alphanumeric Company Codes 0AAA and 999R as test codes. These
codes will not be assigned and are available for companies to test their
systems for acceptance of alphanumeric Company Code assignments. If you find this newsletter valuable, then please pass it on to any colleagues or friends who may benefit from this information.
