[Top of Page] US Senator Proposes Wireless Bill of Rights US Senator Charles 'Chuck' Schumer (D-NY) proposed a piece of legislation being dubbed the Cell Phone User Bill of Rights. Under the proposed law, the FCC would be required to take an active role in monitoring the quality of service being provided by the country's wireless operators. Carriers also would be required to provide more lucid information about terms of service contracts to its customers, providing all such relevant information in a box on a contract. The bill also wants to push wireless carriers to get moving on implementing number portability, imposing a hard deadline of November 2003 or six months after the legislation goes into effect, whichever comes first.
