ATS Switch Translations Support - A Business Case

The following business case provides just one example where ATS' Switch Translations personnel and translations tools can provide significant impact to your operations.

Problem Statement

A client company wanted to convert an existing local switch to handle dedicated long distance (LD) traffic. The company estimated it could generate $50,000 in additional revenues per month with this change. The project was to move 2,000 customers off this switch and reconfigure the entire network so that all traffic would route through this LD switch.

The client wanted to route every possible code uniquely, requiring up to 140,000 code updates to handle this change. A Switch Translator would have to develop scripts to mechanically update each code and manually monitor the whole process. With workforce pressures to just meet current demands, the Translator expected the project to take 3 months to complete.

In addition to the time constraint, the update of the codes was slow and prone to error. Scripts could stop half way through processing and the client had no recovery strategy. There was also no way to verify that all changes were made.

Most importantly, there was a high potential of negatively impacting clients. This would result in both negative client perceptions, but also additional cost of processing client trouble tickets (and possible client rebates).

ATS Solution

Working as an adjunct to the client's Switch Translations staff, ATS had a solution. ATS Translators worked with the client to define the expectations and then used our proprietary software (NetMan and SimCall) to mechanically make the required changes in the switch at a speed and consistency that could not be duplicated internally. Our software made the changes directly on the switch and then we used audit programs to absolutely verify how each call would be rated and routed on that switch by simulating all possible call combinations. The changes were applied to the switch at a rate of 3,200 changes per hour over 4 simultaneous channels (scalable).

Client Benefit

The benefits of using ATS for this project were dramatic. The work was accurately completed at a fraction of the time and internal cost. Some of these costs are:
