Code Misroute Identification and Reporting

  • Traffic that is mis-routed at the code level can be identified by correlating empirical CDRs collected from the network, with trunk network topology and trunk capacity metrics.

  • The mis-route analysis algorithm identifies opportunities in which calls transit from EOA to EOY through tandem T1, yet there exists a direct trunk group, PH1, between the two switches.

  • Codes are then flagged as potential mis-routed codes if the capacity metrics of PH1 indicate that during the time of the call there was no overflow pegged for that trunk group.

Intermediate High Usage Trunk Design

Scenario
  • Existing tandem switch (T1) exhausts capacity.
  • New tandem switch (T2) installed to provide relief.
  • Set of end offices (B) are “rehomed” from existing tandem to new tandem.

Planning and Design Questions

  • Initial sizing of trunk groups between the rehomed end offices and the new tandem?
  • For each non-rehomed end office, is there sufficient traffic to warrant an Intermediate High-Usage (IH) trunk group to the new tandem? If so, how large?
  • How much relief can be expected at the exhausted tandem?
